Back in July 06 I purchased my first version of DDR: Mario Mix for the Gamecube. My original intention was to force myself to play this game in order to lose some weight. My intentions immediately changed the first time I finished the first song. There was no "forcing myself" in volved at all. The first 3 weeks I had the game, I literally played from 4-7 hours everyday. My friend Travis was there everday playing it with me once I called him over and forced him to play it (keep in mind, this was the kid who once laughingly told me "If you get DDR I'll never respect you as a gamer" so using the word "forced" was accurate).

Now, I'm not overweight. However, I do weigh more than I want to and I'm have no intrest in sports of any kind, so being a gamer DDR was the perfect solution. Within 5 weeks of my addiction I could get an A on every song and I decided it was time to get a harder version (especially considering Mario Mix is the easiest one out there, excluding the "children versions"). This was difficult for me though. The Gamecube was the only current generation (though now it's the previous generation) console I had. I asked around online and discovered that DDR is a much older franchise than I previously had knowledge of. I, owning a ps1, bought a copy of "Konamix" and one of my friends gave me his playstaion dance pad. I still play Konamix today.

Since then, I have lost around 10 pounds. I have no plan, I just play when I feel like, so this is good to me. People have noticed I've lost weight, and that encourages me to keep going. I have no specific number of pounds I'd like to use, because I no longer think of it as a weightloss tool. It's a game I enjoy, and will play forever, assuming I don't go paralyzed..

So that's my story :] I noticed this was the first one in the board, do I get a cookie?

Congratulations!  I've lost about 20 pounds myself playing Wii Sports with wrist weigts and keeping my calories around 2000 a day.  I blogged about the first month at http://www.videogamefitness.net!  Keep up the good work!

Awesome! I haven't done weights while playing wii yet. I do carry my 1yr old sometimes when playing DDR so she's a 20lb weight. I think that counts. ;) Nice site BTW.
